The young couple needed additional space for their growing family and most of the addition/renovation has taken place on the 2nd floor with large dormers that provide space for an additional children’s room with lots of light and colors, and for a small office/nursery connected to the new master bedroom suite.

One of the homeowners is a medievalist and during one of our initial Discovery meetings jokingly asked if she could have a “medieval turret”. The little turret featured in the master suite bathroom becomes the base/container for a soaking tub and the small narrow windows are not used to shoot arrows to “medieval” assailants, but to soak in the views of the green backyard beyond.

On the first floor, GDA’s involvement was focused with the renovation of the Living Room that the homeowners wanted to change into a Living Room combined with “an old-world library” – while we explained that a real “old-world library” could not be designed given the limited horizontal and vertical dimensions of the space, we expressed that we could provide them with the “memory” of an “old-world library” through simplified gestures, and hints of a very organized geometry, and they are
delighted with the result.
