As Lead Architect for CDM Smith, Umberto has been in charge of the design for ten new buildings for this brand-new Water Treatment Plant located in the vicinity of Mansheya, next to the King Abdullah Canal in the Jordan valley. Water drawn from the Canal through a Low-Lift Intake Pump Station, treated and purified at the plant, will be hoisted uphill through a system of 13 Pump Stations, and will reach the plateau at the East to satisfy the increasing clean water needs of the large city of Irbid.

The needs to establish a “theme” for the buildings and a sense of place for the plant has found its expression in the enhancement of the structural system, that takes the role of a well-organized and explicit gesture on the exterior of the buildings envelopes, thus unifying the whole plant with an underlying consistency and meaning, and providing it with a sense of campus.
