A wall had to be removed between the existing kitchen and the existing dining room, used as an office. It was chosen to do this to give ample breath to the renovated kitchen by opening up and expanding its new space and organize very much needed additional cabinetry, and the new required island.

By removing the entire wall, something needed to be done to support the upper floor and a column was introduced to anchor a new support beam. The new lonely column would have felt quite out of place and obviously an afterthought, if the owner had not expressed that she had a good collection of ceramic figurines, small vases and other glass décor objects.

Why not, then, accommodate her need of displaying her collection on glass shelves lit from above, and held by a series of 4 equal columns, among which only one was the real structural one? Which one?
